ITALY veteran threatened Strikethrough

A number of veteran players threatened coach Marcello Lippi was dropped from the Italian national team in fulfilling the number of 23 players for the World Cup in 2010.

Lippi is scheduled to cross out the five players as of June 1 next. Earlier, left-back Fabio Grosso - Italy decisive victory in the final four years ago, has been crossed out. Midfielder Mauro Camoranesi is called the following players who are most likely to be thrown from the initial squad.

"Lippi always say never burdened with a past relationship. But we must make sure that anyone who was brought to South Africa's well-deserved," said defender Gianluca Zambrotta wing.

"No one whose position is secure. Not really me, or Gennaro Gattuso Camoranesi," added the AC Milan player who will likely occupy trusted positions Grosso at left defense.

Camoranesi, 33 years old, was dropped because it would look bad with Juventus during the season because of being undermined by a groin injury. Unfortunately, the Argentine-born player to compete with Simone Pepe is seven years younger and more comfortable to play on the left or right.

"I played two and a half years on the right, then six months on the left. So whatever the command coach, no problem," said Pepe.

"But no decision on the coach. Camoranesi great player and role model to me," added the player Udinese this when asked rivalry with Camoranesi.

Meanwhile newcomer Christian Maggio (Napoli) and Domenico Criscito (Genoa) seems to be competing to win the last position on defense. While Leonardo Bonucci (Bari) and Mattia Cassani (Palermo) will compete to fill the wing position.

"All four players had a chance to become a starter, they are strong. We have a strong defense in 2006 and slightly decreased in the Confederations Cup. We have to restore it," asserted Zambrotta.

But Lippi's biggest focus is on the composition of the attacker. With three players ahead scheme, Lippi is likely to put Antonio Di Natale, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta. Thus competition remaining one as a backup striker will be contested by Marco Boriello, Fabio Quagriarella and Giuseppe Rossi.
